Simply walking about 10,000 steps per day (as compared with lower amounts) is associated with the following: 

  • 50% lower dementia risk 
  • 50% – 70% lower risk of premature death 
  • 44% lower risk of getting type 2 diabetes 
  • 31% (or more) lower risk of obesity 
  • Significant reductions in cancer occurrence, major depression, gastric reflux, and sleep apnea
